Northwestern Oklahoma State University Saunders Earns GAC Defensive Player of the Week

Northwestern Oklahoma State football defeated Arkansas Monticello Saturday afternoon 26-23 in Monticello, Arkansas. Northwestern used a defensive touchdown and blocked field goal at the end to steal the road victory over the Weevils. A big part of the win was from linebacker Joseph Saunders who earned this week's conference defensive player of the week award.

Saunders played in his fourth game of the 2022 season having his career high in tackles, tackle for a loss, sacks, and break ups. He also picked up his first defensive touchdown as the Ranger linebacker helped the team to victory. The Florida native finished the game with 11 solo tackles with one tackle for a loss following a 13 yard sack. He broke up to key passes in the win. After Brian Holiday forced a fumble early in the game Saunders scooped it and ran for a 12 yard touchdown for a fumble recovery in the win.

The Ranger freshman now has 15 solo tackles on the season along with 7 assisted for 22 in total, in his first season with the Ranger. Northwestern will return home for Saturday afternoon's game at 2:00 PM as the Rangers take on the Savage Storm of Southeastern Oklahoma State.
