The game remained 23-13 for the next three and half minutes until the eight minute mark before a Jackson layup pushed the Crimson Storm lead to twelve.

Parsons stopped their run with a three pointer to cut the deficit back down to eleven. Back to back three pointers for SNU had increased their lead to 35-16, their largest to this point of the game at the 4:04 mark of the opening half. Northwestern had a late first half push cutting the deficit to 13 with 1:08 left following a made layup by Larry White for his eleventh point in the first half. The Crimson Storm answered by finishing the half on a 5-0 run to take a 45-27 lead into halftime.

Parsons hit another three to end that run for his fourth of the half. At the 13:08 mark the visitors were able to extend their lead back to 19 at 58-39. Butters answered with a put back dunk off a missed shot. Southern Nazarene continued to build their lead as it reached 20 at 64-44 with 10 minutes left in the half.
