Northwestern Oklahoma State University Rangers Win on the Road Behind Late Game Run

The Lady Rangers went on the road Saturday evening winning 54-50 over Southeastern Oklahoma State. Northwestern used an 8-0 run late in the game to take a 52-44 lead with 1:24 left to play before closing out the win 54-50. 

Northwestern improves to 5-2 on the season with a 2-2 record inside conference play. The Lady Rangers had three double figure scorers in Carly Craig with 14 followed by Camille Thomas and Faith Simpson. Thomas finished with a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.


FIRST QUARTER:

Southeastern opened the game with the first four points of the evening jumping out to a 4-0 lead. Simpson broke the scoring drought three minutes into the game to put the Lady Rangers on the board. Craig followed with a three pointer to give Northwestern their first lead of the game at 5-4 before knocking down a layup for a 7-4 lead. Southeastern answered back though with a three pointer to tie the game at 7-7 at the five minute mark. Simpson put the Rangers in front with a mid range jump shot taking an 11-10 lead with 3:02 left to play. The defensive intensity picked up keeping the game 11-10 until the 37 second mark when Camille Thomas finished a layup for a 13-10 Northwestern lead. Southeastern closed with four straight to take a 14-13 lead at the end of the quarter on a buzzer beater three by Alverson. 

Second Quarter.


The Rangers opened the quarter with three straight to take a 16-14 lead following three straight from Simpson off a layup and a foul shot. Another three by Alverson locked the game at 18-18 with 6:08 left to play in the half. After trading a few possessions Simpson broke the tie with a jump shot to take a 20-18 lead with 4:55 left to play. Craig kept the run going with a three pointer building a 23-18 advantage. Northwestern defense continued to cause problems for the Savage Storm offense as the Lady Rangers extended the lead to 25-18 following two foul shots by Nikya Orange. The Lady Rangers carried a 27-22 lead into halftime following a jump shot by C. Thomas. 

THIRD QUARTER:

Thomas got the scoring started in the third with a layup to take a 29-22 lead before a Craig three gave Northwestern their first double digit lead at 32-22 to open the quarter. C. Thomas gave the team the largest lead at 35-24 on a three pointer by Talayah Thomas. Southeastern then answered closing into the gap on a layup followed by back to back foul shots making it a 35-29 game. However Carlie Badley finished a running layup for a 37-29 lead ending the Savage Storm run. Southeastern went on a run bringing the game back within four but a timely three by Craig pushed it back to seven at 42-35 to the end of the third quarter.

Fourth Quarter:

The Lady Rangers opened a 44-37 lead before a Southeastern run of 7-0 brought the game back to 44-44 for the first time since the second quarter. There was 3:52 left to play when Southeastern tied the game, but Josena Frame had a quick answer as she knocked down a corner three pointer sparking an 8-0 run. C. Thomas and Orange finished layups for the 52-44 lead. With 32 seconds left, Southeastern cut the deficit to two but Frame finished the game off with two late foul shots to seal a 54-50 win over the Savage Storm.
