Northwestern Oklahoma State University Lady Rangers Close out the 2022 Year with Double Digit Victory over Bethel

The Lady Rangers closed out the 2022 calendar year with a 79-58 victory over Bethel Threshers. Faith Simpson scored the first 10 points for the Lady Rangers. Northwestern grew their largest lead to 26 points and led by double digits the whole second half before closing out the victory.

Simpson led the Rangers with 29 points along with seven rebounds. Carly Craig finishes with a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds as the Lady Rangers improve to 6-2 on the season.

FIRST QUARTER: 

Faith Simpson got the scoring started on a basket assisted by Carly Craig. Simpson rattled off the first ten points for the Lady Rangers to start the game, helping Northwestern take an early 10-6 lead with 7:08 left to play in the first quarter. Camille Thomas scored six straight points for Northwestern following a Craig foul shot as the Lady Rangers pushed their lead to double digits for the first time in the afternoon. The Lady Rangers built their lead to 21-6 following a layup for Simpson Bethel stopped the 8-0 run on a made layup before Orange and Craig closed out the quarter with a 5-0 run to take a 30-12 lead into the end of the first quarter.

SECOND QUARTER:

Bethel started the quarter with a run to try and answer, scoring the first six points to cut the lead back down to 12 following a layup two minutes into the quarter. Simpson stopped the run off a jumper at the top of the key to push the lead back to 14. Northwestern continued to hold the double digit lead at 36-24 following a three point play from Orange. Carlie Badley hit a layup for her first points of the afternoon bringing the lead to 40-26. Bethel continued to cut into their deficit getting as close as 11 at 40-29 but Northwestern had a quick answer. Camille Thomas with a jumper before a Craig three put the lead back to 45-29. C. Thomas finished the half off with a jump shot to send the game into the break at 47-33. 

THIRD QUARTER: 

Simpson opened the third quarter just like she started the game scoring the first six points of the quarter to push the Ranger lead back to 20 points at 53-33. Bethel answered back with a 5-0 run to cut the deficit to 53-38. The defense picked up forcing a three minute scoring drought before Bethel got back on the board pushing their run to 8-0 cutting it to six. Simpson ended the run with a layup to put the Lady Rangers back in front 55-40 starting a 6-0 run. Craig hit a three followed by an Orange layup for a 21 point lead for Northwestern. The Lady Rangers lead 66-44 at the end of the third quarter.

FOURTH QUARTER:

Northwestern grew their largest lead at 26 points off a made layup by Orange. Bethel answered back with a three pointer. With the score 72-49 with 6:46 left no points were scored until 4:29 left as Simpson went one of two from the line. The Lady Rangers grew the lead back to 25 on foul shots from Aubrey Ritter before Bethel closed the game on a 4-0 run as the Lady Rangers won 79-58.

Northwestern will return to conference play on Thursday to start the 2023 calendar year against Southern Arkansas with tip off set for 5:30 on January 5th.
